My first thought is No. You can’t. Then I thought about it and I now think the answer to this question is that it depends on the type of grant that is being sought. Generally speaking, filing for bankruptcy will not prevent someone from receiving a grant. However, certain grants may have specific eligibility criteria that may limit the ability of an individual to receive the grant if they have filed for bankruptcy.

For instance, the federal government provides grants to help with tuition, living expenses, and other expenses related to post-secondary education. These grants may be restricted to individuals who have not filed for bankruptcy in the past, or may have other restrictions related to bankruptcy. It is important to review the eligibility criteria for the grant being sought prior to filing for bankruptcy in order to determine whether the grant will be available. Another example is the PPP program.

I’d read the application carefully and answer it honestly. If there is a section on bankruptcy and you’ve filed, fill it out correctly.

Some grants may have additional requirements that must be met in order to receive the grant. These requirements may include a credit check, which could be affected by a bankruptcy filing. However, depending on the type of grant and the specific credit requirement, the bankruptcy filing may not necessarily disqualify the individual from receiving the grant.

Hope that helps you out.
